Karen is the 2023 2nd Vice President of the Pacific Seed Association and is Co-Owner of Clearwater Seed, Inc.


We asked Karen a few questions about her thoughts on the Industry, her career and a few fun questions about herself.

Company/ Person Questions How long have you worked at the company?

  • 15 years, but I have 27 year of experience in grass seed industry

What is an interesting fact about you that not many people know?

  • I’ve run six marathons, and dozens of triathlons including Ironman

  • 15 years

What’s your favorite part of being a member of PSA?

  • The people

How many PSA events have you attended?

  • 5 meetings

What have you enjoyed about them?

  • I enjoy the people

  • Hawaii

  • Seed World, Seed Today, and the Capitol Press

What professional growth books have you read recently?

  • Built to Last, by Jerry Parras and Jim Collins

What’s a quote you love about the seed industry?

  • “It All Starts Here”

Career Questions What career advice do you live by? Who gave it to you?

  • Every time we have a problem my mom says, “This too shall pass”.

What do you/did you love the most about your job?

  • The symbiotic relationship with my growers. They produce it; we clean it and market it. Hopefully, everyone makes money.

What experiences and past roles have led you to where you are today?

  • I grew up on a wheat/barley/grass seed farm where we learned to work hard and appreciate other people.

Fun Questions What are you reading or listening to?

  • Just finished Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg. Up next is The Wisdom of the Bullfrog by William McRaven

What would be the theme song of your life right now?

  • “It’s My Job” by Jimmy Buffet

What’s your favorite memory?

  • Running the Boson Marathon in 2009. Super fun day.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

  • Both. Sleeping is a skill, and I am not good at it.
